Trades vetting
Exactly what we check before a trade is approved
Licence, insurance and genuine work are reviewed privately. Builders see a simple current verification status — never licence numbers, policy details or documents.
The three checks
Nothing is approved on trust alone
A trade is not approved until all three pass. Two out of three is still In review.
1. Licence
The licence or contractor registration held by the trading entity doing the work.
What we collect
- Licence number and the state or territory that issued it
- Licence class or category, so it covers the work being quoted
- Name of the licence holder or licensed entity
- Expiry date, recorded against the profile
- A readable copy or screenshot of the licence itself
What passes
- Number matches an active record on the relevant register (QBCC, NSW Fair Trading, VBA, WA Building Commission, SA CBS, ACT, NT, Tas)
- Licence class covers the trade they are listed under
- Holder name matches the business name or an obvious related entity
- Expiry date is in the future
What gets sent back
- Number cannot be found, is suspended, or is cancelled
- Licence is held by a different person or company with no explanation
- Class does not cover the work (e.g. a handyman ticket listed as an electrician)
- Already expired, or a document too blurred to read
2. Insurance
A current certificate of currency for public liability, plus workers compensation where workers are engaged.
What we collect
- Insurer name and policy number
- Insured entity name and ABN
- Amount of cover
- Period of insurance, with the expiry recorded against the profile
- The certificate of currency document itself
What passes
- Certificate is a certificate of currency from the insurer or broker, not a quote or a tax invoice
- Public liability cover of at least $5M
- Insured entity matches the licence holder or trading entity
- Period of insurance covers today's date
- Workers compensation current, or a sole-operator declaration where no workers are engaged
What gets sent back
- Policy expired, or the period of insurance has not started
- Insured name belongs to an unrelated business
- A renewal notice, quote or invoice supplied instead of a certificate
- Cover below $5M with no explanation for the scope of work quoted
3. Work photos
At least one photograph of finished work the trade actually completed, published to their public profile.
What we collect
- One or more photos of completed jobs
- An optional title and caption describing the job and the trade's role in it
- The order the trade wants them shown in, with a cover image
What passes
- The work shown matches the trade they are listed under
- Photos are of finished work, not a product catalogue or a stock image
- Image quality is good enough for a builder to assess workmanship
What gets sent back
- Obvious stock photography, supplier marketing images or manufacturer renders
- Screenshots of another business's website or social media
- Logos, price lists or flyers uploaded in place of work photos
- Images unrelated to the trade category
The process
From upload to approved place

Trade submits
Licence details, insurance certificate and work photos are uploaded from onboarding or Account settings. The profile moves to In review the moment anything changes.

We check, by hand
A person opens the documents, checks the licence number on the issuing register, reads the certificate of currency, and looks at the photos. This is not an automated tick box.

Approved or sent back
Approved trades get the Verified badge on their profile and beside every quote. If something does not pass, the trade receives the specific reason and what to re-upload — not a generic rejection.

Tracked after approval
Every expiry date is held on file. Reminders go out before cover lapses, and the badge is withdrawn if a licence or policy expires until a current document is supplied.
Vetting confirms the documents supplied and their status on the relevant register at the time of checking. It does not replace your own contractual due diligence, site inductions or contract administration.
